Meet the Vets

Clayton Watkins, DVM, CAC

I graduated from North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988 and have a special interest in surgery and endocrinology.  I received a certification in Animal Chiropractic from AVCA (American Veterinary Chiropractic Association) in 1998.  I co-founded Idlewild Animal Hospital in 1992, moved our offices to Commonwealth in 2002 and became sole owner of the practice in 2012.

I am married to the lovely Marie Powell Watkins and have two stepchildren, Mason (18) and Catey (16) and have a five year old son named Charlie.  We have two cats (Sir Purr & Duncan) and dog (Bella) and we have a cozy home in the Arboretum area.  We attend St. John’s Episcopal Church. My hobbies include child rearing, golf, swimming, and I play and collect guitars.  I also play the mandolin, drums, and bass guitar and play in the Praise Band at St. John’s Episcopal Church on a weekly basis for the contemporary service.

I am extremely fortunate to have chosen such an interesting and dynamic line of work and really enjoy my clientele and fellow employees.

 Luke Haver, DVM

I graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. Originally from Ohio, I moved to Charlotte in 2011 to join Commonwealth Animal Hospital.

I take great pride in focusing on high quality client and patient care and I recommend and provide the best medicine for my patients. A few of my professional interests include dentistry, dermatology and internal medicine. My interest in dentistry has taken me along the path of multiple advanced dental CE courses, allowing me to take my knowledge of clinical dentistry and subsequent client education to a higher level.

I live in NoDa with my girlfriend Gina and three Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Sari, Turbo, and Zaya. When not at work, I enjoy relaxing, watching football, playing frisbee with my dogs, home-brewing beer, camping and occasional kayaking and rock climbing.

I go above and beyond “the norm”, treating each pet as if they were my own, recommending the best for your pet. I look forward to many more years of providing Charlotte area pets with personal attention and high quality medical care.

Shebel Hanley Hariharan, DVM (“Dr. Shebel”)

I graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in beautiful Prince Edward Island, Canada in 2005. After completing an internship at the San Diego Zoo, I fell in love with California and moved to San Diego with my dog Gaia where I practiced in Eastlake for 5 years and then the Bay Area for 2.  Along our travels, my husband Jay and I found what we were looking for in a home in Charlotte and relocated our family to beautiful Plaza Midwood in January of 2013.

I am happy to be a part of the vibrant community and the Commonwealth Veterinary Hospital family.  I consider myself a “family doctor” and aim to establish a lasting relationship with my patients including an integrative holistic approach to their medical care.  My special interests are internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and Chinese herbal medicine.
